Coonawarra Premium Vineyard

Rex’s involvement in the wine industry began in 1991 when he founded a business cleaning and modernising old cement wine vats. The company provided a wide range of industrial services to the Australian and New Zealand wine industry and was sold in 1998 to the Brambles Group, one of Australia’s largest stock exchange listed companies.

Having started his wine career in 1991, Rex wanted to be more closely involved with the production of wine and in 1997 began growing grapes through the purchase of a small 25 acre vineyard in the Coonawarra region. In 1999 Rex initiated and was the driving force behind the planting of the most significant modern vineyard in the Coonawarra, fulfilling a dream to become the largest independent grape grower in the region. The vineyard development started at more than 600 acres and in less than five years was built into a venture that owns, controls and manages almost 1,000 acres over three vineyards.

The winemaking team employ current best practice technologies in producing the “Rex Watson Wine” brands from their Coonawarra vineyards. The “Rex Watson Three Sons” range, dedicated to his three sons Harry, Jake and Kurt is a premium range of estate wines including Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Elegant, fruit driven, balanced and complex with great ageing potential they are ideal for all occasions. The “Rex Watson Coonawarra” ranges delivers wines of generous flavour and great structure. Unwooded Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz plus a blend of Cabernet Shiraz Merlot make up a balanced range of modern flavoured wines that are perfect for sharing with friends over dinner.
